Where was Juvie when I was growing up? Sure, surviving such fashion hideousness as Grranimals and Underoos builds character, but it does not put one on the path to best-dressed. (Okay, I admit, I kept the Wonder Woman Underoos for special occasions...) How many of us were sent to school deeply uncool, wearing clothes that our mother/stylist had picked out for us? "Don't you look nice" my mother would say, giving me the once over as I stood there in my patchwork denim leisure suit with bedazzler bead embellishments and coordinating orange turtleneck. It didn't matter how much I hated it. It didn't matter how much ridicule I (rightfully) invited. It didn't even matter that Starsky and Hutch hadn't been on the air for years, and Huggy Bear Chic was a thing of the past.
My only consolation was that my sister had to wear it years later as a hand-me-down.
If only Juvie Shop had been around when I was a kid.
Juvie Shop might be the coolest kid's shop ever. Juvie Shop is all about hip, modern style for tween boys and girls. No, not "hip" in the mom sense of the word (although moms will actually approve of the styles here) , no, hip in the truest sense of the word: Juvie carries contemporary fashions that appeal to "prepsters, princesses, soccer stars, skate-necks, bookworms, drummers and junior
hipsters." Someone you know?
How cool is Juvie? Radiohead tees for boys? Ella Moss dresses for girls? Beyond question. Finally, clothes that work for the pickiest of customers: tweens and their moms. Boys go wild for the Kingsley tees, Wes and Willy cargos, and One True Sun jackets. Girls can't get enough of the iT skinny jeans, Kitty Kat bubble dresses (the larger version seen on Carrie Underwood during her SNL appearance!) and Paul Frank bikinis. Both boys and girls love the toys and games here, especially the stuffed earache and sore throat microbes by Giant Microbes. (Gross, but undeniably adorable.)
